The Star League has been reborn!
After centuries of distrust, ambition and warfare, the nations of the Inner Sphere have united once again under the banner of the Star League.
Their goal: To carry the war to the Clans and demonstrate once and for all that they will not be cowed or beaten.
Their instrument: Task Force Serpent, a multi-national force trained to operate as one for the most ambitious military expedition mankind has ever seen.
But there are those -- enemies both internal and external -- who would see the mission fail. Whether due to frictions between units from historically hostile nations or the stresses brought about by the intense secrecy and desperation of their mission, Marshal Morgan Hasek-Davion must fight against the forces threatening to tear this unprecedented army apart. If he fails, the entire Inner Sphere just might suffer the consequences. But more than just military failure awaits him in the darkness beyond the Periphery...
Along the way, friendships will be tested, old wounds will be reopened and philosophies will clash. And even if the members of Task Force Serpent reach Clan space intact, they will face there the toughest challenge of their careers. For they intend to battle the enemy on its own turf: Huntress, homeworld of Clan Smoke Jaguar.
