Hired by the Draconis Combine, the Northwind Highlanders send a unit under the command of Loren Jaffray deep into the Periphery to raid a Smoke Jaguar stronghold. But when they get there, the mercenaries find more than they bargained for and Jaffray must come up with a plan to save his troops while still accomplishing their mission.
