Loren Jaffray is a Death Commando, one of the elite soldiers of the Capellan Confederation and completely loyal to the Chancellor. He is also the descendant of the Northwind Highlanders, a mercenary unit with a long history in service to House Liao. But during the Fourth Succession War, when House Davion was devastating the Capellan nation, the Highlanders abandoned their long-time employers. Jaffray's grandparents were among the few Highlanders who remained loyal to the Capellans.
Sun-Tzu Liao has many plans to restore his nation to its former glory. Sending Loren to his ancestral homeworld in a complicated scheme for revenge against the Highlanders is but one of those. But things don't always go as planned... or do they?
