Carlyle's Commandos are pulling garrison duty on Trellwan when a sneak attack by the Draconis Combine utterly destroys them. Only Grayson Death Carlyle, son of the Commandos' leader, survives to join the resistance against the occupation.
Though little trained and inexperienced in combat, it will be up to Grayson to forge the disparate elements of the resistance into a fighting force to be reckoned with. In doing so, he will find his destiny and create a legend.
