A world situated near the Free Worlds League/Lyran border, Thermopolis was independent of any larger political organization within the League. It served as a major port of entry for trade entering the League from Lyran space, and this reason alone would be enough to make it a rich world. It is, however, most notable as the primary home of Kallon Industries within Marik space. In 3025, Thermopolis provided the only RFL-3N Riflemen built in the League (at the rate of 8 per year). Despite this, the Kallon Industries plant was one of the smallest in the League, and did not warrant a 'Mech regiment until after the Clan Invasion, when the 5th Fusiliers of Oriente were posted to the world. Kallon responded to this apathy by reactivating old lines on Asuncion, Bernardo, and Loyalty instead of expanding the Thermopolis facilities.

It is not entirely clear what was produced on Thermopolis at any given point. Most sources indicate that the WVR-6M Wolverine was being produced for the League in 3025 (at a rate of 18 per year); this line purportedly was upgraded to WVR-7M production by 3050. Some sources, however, indicate that the Wolverine line was shut down in 3007 to produce the EXT-4M Exterminator. Still others suggest that the line was destroyed or disabled between the fall of the Star League and the end of the Succession Wars. These latter suggestions are supported by the fact that even while Kallon was producing the WVR-8D and -9D on Talon, no League facility made an effort to produce a "Phoenix" variant of the Wolverine. It is possible that the line produced 'Mechs inefficiently or that there were regular interruptions in production, or that it cycled between Wolverine and Exterminator production runs.

What is clear is that Kallon Industries has produced the Rifleman on Thermopolis for many years. The facility was the first Rifleman line to switch to an advanced technology design with the RFL-5M; the line was later refit to produce the RFL-7M as part of Project Phoenix. It is also clear that Thermopolis became a battlefield during or after the Jihad, for by 3125 the planet was part of Lyran space. At that time, Hansen's Roughriders were garrisoning the world; we may surmise from the prestige of that unit that Thermopolis continues to produce 'Mechs for House Steiner.
