2011[14 Jan] Soviet Premier Oleg Tikonov concludes talks with American President. They sign the Tikonov Accords, opening elections in Warsaw Pact nations within five years and bringing influx of Western capital. Hours later, Tikonov and his family are assassinated by fanatic Moslem terrorist. [15 Jan] Soviet Armed Forces go on alert. [3 Mar] Kiev seized by coalition of ethnic and nationalist groups. Ukraine Peoples Republic declared. Two weeks later, East Germany and Czechoslovakia withdraw from Warsaw Pact. Admiral Sergei Tarantoff, Director of KGB, institutes state-wide martial law and assumes command of Soviet military. Second Soviet Civil War begins, with one side loyal to Tikonov's liberal policies and the other to conservative Communism.
2013Battle of Moscow. Brigadier Arthur Davion created a Baron.
2014[Mar] Second Soviet Civil War ends with the surrender of the last Old Guard-controlled ICBM site to Loyalist forces. North Atlantic Treaty Organization forces withdraw from Russia. Leaders of the various Western powers meet in the newly reunited Berlin to discuss British Prime Minister's call for "a new alliance of Western nations." North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Common Market dissolved in favor of the Western Alliance. Leaders of various Soviet political and ethnic groups meet at Kiev. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics dissolved and seven independent Russian States created in a loose confederation. After ten-year probationary period, they will be considered for admittance to Western Alliance. Western Alliance Armed Forces formed. [Aug] Takayoshi Fuchida leaves Kyoto University for five-year research assignment at Stanford University.
2016[Jan] Alliance Space Command formed and based at Crippen Station. [Dec] First permanent lunar settlement completed and operational. Alliance Space Command Headquarters moves to Luna.
2017[July] AS Altair launched to Mars. [Aug] AS Procyon launched to Mars.
2018[Jan] First reports from Mars get back to Terra. [June] Working prototype of fusion reactor ready. [July] While working on a prototype fusion reactor at Stanford University, Professors Thomas Kearny and Takayoshi Fuchida notice anomalies inconsistent with known laws of physics. They publish "What Happened to the Universe When Einstein Wasn't Looking?" in the September issue of The Western Alliance Journal of Theoretical Physics.
2019Kearny and Fuchida publish "Einstein's Theories: The Cooked and the Raw." Fuchida's five-year research assignment renewed.
2020First full-scale fusion reactor completed by a team of Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology engineers and General Motors Corporation. The reactor exceeds all expectations. Kearny and Fuchida publish their famous paper entitled "Now What?"
2021Kearny and Fuchida publish "Pan-Dimensionality." Other scientists consider the contents of these papers to be even more amusing than their titles. The two scientists are laughed out of their jobs and their profession. Professor Takayoshi Fuchida marries Katherine Kurita. General Motors patents first commercially available fusion reactor.
2022China, the Hong Kong Collective, and the recently combined Korean States announce their intention to form the Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. This action is seen as a direct threat to Western Alliance. Both sides actively court Japan, the one country that could make Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere a rival to the Alliance. International tensions escalate.
2023[Jan] Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere announces naval blockade of Japan to "better present its case to the Japanese people, free from the influence of Western venom-spreaders." The heavy pacifism of the Japanese leads them to decide not to fight the blockade unless absolutely necessary. [Apr] Supplies airlifted from Western Alliance are insufficient to make up for the effects of the Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere blockade. Japanese government collapses. Public sentiment is split evenly between the two alliances. Emperor of Japan assumes temporary control and imposes rationing. He requests major assistance from Western Alliance. [May] First Western Alliance relief convoy leaves Pearl Harbor, composed of ships from both the United States and the Free Soviet Nations. Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere says it will not back down. Chinese cruiser Iron Flower runs over surfaced Western Alliance submarine that had been scouting for relief convoy. USS Bremerton sinks will all hands lost. Akagi and Kongo, two Japanese Defense Force destroyers closest to the incident, challenge the Iron Flower and order it to surrender. The Chinese cruiser opens fire. In the subsequent battle, the Iron Flower is destroyed, along with the Akagi. Japanese public sides with Western Alliance. Emperor frees Japanese Defense Force from its strict rules of engagement. Japanese Defense Force begins immediate military actions against blockading ships of Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. Japanese launch intensive diplomatic effort to forestall war between both sides.
2024Osaka Agreement announced. Japan, China, and Korean States enter Western Alliance but retain power to resolve some regional questions without need for Alliance approval. Western Alliance accepts Japan, China, Korean States, and the seven Russian States as members. Takayoshi Fuchida, his credibility as a physicist destroyed by his controversial work, returns in disgrace to Japan. He and his wife, Katherine Kurita, set up a small stationery and origami supply shop in the poorer section of Tokyo.
2026[Apr] First fusion drive developed.
2027[12 Oct] AS Columbia launched toward Mars with a fusion power drive. [26 Oct] AS Columbia arrives at Mars.
2028Magellan Project authorized by Western Alliance Parliament.
2029Magellan One, the first interstellar probe, completed.

2107Kearny-Fuchida Drive perfected. [3 Sept] TAS Volga makes the first hyperdrive jump.
